Privacy
No ads, no tracking across sites, and visit data is never shared with anyone. We count visits so we know what people read and how fast the site is for them.
Always
Like any web server, ours logs each request: the time, the page or file, the site you came from, your browser's name and version, and how long the server took. Your IP address is used to look up your country and city, then shortened (the last part removed) before it's stored.
Nothing else is sent and nothing is stored in your browser until you agree.
Only if you agree
After each page has loaded, a small script reports how long loading took and the width of the window. Two cookies, used only for analytics, let us count how many different people visit and how many visits they make:
v: a random visitor ID, kept for a years: a random visit ID, gone after 30 minutes without reading
The IDs are random: they don't say who you are. A third cookie, consent, remembers
your choice for a year.
How long
Visit records are kept for a year, then deleted.
Newsletter
If you subscribe on the home page, we keep your email address on our own server and use it to send the newsletter. You're added once you confirm through the link we email you. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
To prevent abuse of the signup form, we log each signup, confirmation and unsubscribe, and every email we send, with the email address and IP address, and keep these records for six months. Unsubscribing stops the emails; if you ask us to delete your address, we remove it from the list and from these records.
